"Change the way you look at things,
and the things you look at change..."
-W. W. Dyer
Hi, I'm Matt, an amateur photographer based in Gillingham, Dorset, UK.
I have always had a passion for music and creating things, although my outputs are normally more of the engineering ilk having worked in manufacturing for 19 years.
I only recently started photography, around three years ago, despite always enjoying artistic imagery. My first forays were in artistic and basic product photography for my wifes business creating high quality handbags & purses, and her online haberdashery.
Sadly, my wife lost her long battle with cancer in early 2019, this lead to me taking a greater interest in photography as a way to stay occupied. I have found the creative process, and especially trips out in nature, to be very cathartic. i have also found that photography brings a different way of looking at everything around us; greater depth and more appreciation for small details.
You may notice that many of my images have a particular style, with a dark border and greater lighting around the point of interest. Despite this being a common technique, my inspiration was drawn from my 1992 visit to the National Gallery to see the Rembrandt exhibition, where i was rather taken by his piece "the Money Changer" which has a wonderful pool of light cast by a single candle.
I hope you enjoy my work,
Matt
